Sam Allardyce is poised to be named the new England manager.

The 61-year-old Sunderland boss is likely to be announced as Roy Hodgson's successor following a Football Association Board meeting on Thursday.

Outgoing FA Chairman Gred Dyke confirmed the three-man panel entrusted with appointing the new England boss – consisting of Martin Glenn, Dan Ashworth and David Gill - had recommended Allardyce.

It is a dream appointment for the former Bolton, Newcastle and West Ham manager, who was overlooked for the role 10 years ago in favour of Steve McClaren.
