Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has announced his retirement from football at the age of 38.

The former England, West Ham and Manchester City midfielder, who left New York City FC last autumn, is understood to have turned down several offers from Premier League clubs to continue his glittering 21-year playing career.

Lampard, Chelsea's record goalscorer, won 11 major honours during his time at Stamford Bridge and was capped 106 times by England.

"After 21 incredible years, I have decided that now is the right time to finish my career as a professional footballer,” Lampard wrote in Instagram.
