Busy start to 2017 for women's football

Women's Super League Spring Series

The FA has moved the top level of women's football, the WSL, from a summer league to a winter league in line with the rest of the women's football pyramid.

As a result the 2017/18 WSL season will not start until September 2017. To bridge the gap WSL1 and WSL2 will take part in a mini season, the WSL Spring Series.

The WSL Spring Series is due to start in February. Detailed fixtures are to be announced soon.

 SSE Women's FA Cup

The major knock out cup competition sees teams from the Women's Premier League Northern and Southern Divisions join the 2nd round proper. Fixtures are set to take place on 8th January.

The 3rd round proper kicks off on 5th February, when teams from WSL2 join the competition.

Teams from WSL1, including defending champions Arsenal Ladies FC, join the competition in the 5th round on 19th March.

 UEFA Women's Euros 2017

Following the bronze medal achievement at the 2015 Women's World Cup England's Lionesses will be preparing to get on the podium at the 2017 UEFA Women's European Championship. The Euros take place in the Netherlands from 16th July- 6th August.

As part of those preparation England Women will play friendlies in La Manga against Norway on 22nd January and against Sweden on 24th January.

Scotland Women also qualified for the Euros, and in doing so gained a place in their first major tournament. Scotland Women will play in the Cyprus Women's Cup between 27th February-9th March as part of their preparation for the Euros.
